Brody Felstead For President

Along with Case, Brody ran for class president this week.  For whatever reason, Brody was having a really hard time deciding what to do for his poster.  Then he and Jeremy came up with this CRAZY idea to make his poster with him and I on it!  

You should have see Brody and I taking pictures for the poster late Sunday night.  We laughed so hard because I am so uncoordinated and dumb!  It seriously took all night!  In case you can't read it, here is what it says:

(I've already told my mom I won, so please vote for me!)

We've already done the victory dance and everything!

 The day of the elections I was sick to my stomach (stay tuned as to why).  Brody on the other hand, was a cool as a cucumber!  

 All during the elections assembly, Brody and I were communicating telepathically. It was actually kind of funny!  We had a plan for the speech but Brody was unsure he could pull it off.  

   One thing I should quickly mention about the speeches is that there are no "props" allowed.  Basically, you stand at the microphone and recite your 30 second speech.  It's super boring but really more fair this way as you don't get the families who spend lots of money on props and handouts.  Also, the kids really have to be creative with their speeches to make them memorable.  Here is what Brody did for his speech (oh I should mention too that Jeremy would NOT sit by me during the assembly.  Instead he sat in a different row as far away as possible.  Here is why:)

Brody: Vote Brody Felstead for president.  

I am smart, kind and helpful.  

I am a leader and very responsible.

ME: (stand up and YELL:)  "THAT'S MY BOY, FRANKLIN'S PRESIDENT"

Brody: Mom, Mom, calm down you see…I haven't won yet yet.  Guys, vote for me and keep my mom from freaking out!

Brody and Me:  (dance the robot dance and look like a fool!)

Holy cow!! It was the funniest thing EVER!  We looked like complete fools and EVERYBODY laughed!  Brody and I were cracking up for the rest of the assembly!  Oh and did I mention that I was super nervous for my little part!  I have no idea how Brody and Case do this!  You would have thought I was speaking in sacrament!  I was THAT nervous!  But guess what…Brody won the election and he is the new class president!

 Here are some of the posters that the other candidates made.  I have to say I was very proud of Brody this week.  He was given a timeline of when each part of the election was due (poster, speech, application, etc.)  He followed it to a tee, as did Case.  The poster was due by Tuesday. Jeremy woke up at 3:00 that morning to pick it up from the printer.  He mounted it on foam board and the boys turned it in that day.  It just so happened that the teacher who is in charge of student council had a medical procedure to remove a large cancer on her nose last Friday and did not get back until Wednesday, the day after the posters were due.  She hung up all the posters that were turned in on Wednesday, EXCEPT for Brody and Case's.  So Brody got in the car Wednesday after school and was hysterical.  He had worked hard on the poster and felt like in order to win the election, he NEEDED his poster UP!  So I pulled into the office after picking up Brody and asked the secretary if she knew what was going on.  She quickly called the teacher in charge and found out that because it was mounted on foam board, she was unable to "staple" it to the wall like the others. I understood and went back to the car to explain to Brody.  He was not happy and claimed that it was "unfair."  He was right.  The students only have lunch time to see the posters and now he and Case's would only be up for 1 day before the vote.  He was yelling at me and huffing and puffing about it  so I calmly explained that I am not in charge and that he was right, it was not fair.  Then I suggested he call the principal.  I handed him the phone and the next thing I know he was leaving a voice mail for the principal.  WOW!  He calmly explained to the principal that he would like to meet with him in the morning and asked for a call back. About 2 hours later my cell phone rang and it was the principal.  He said, "Hello Mrs. Felstead, I understand you would like to meet with me?"  I told him that it was actually Brody who wanted to meet with him and that he was not home at the time.  We scheduled an appointment for the next morning and said good bye.  So Thursday morning rolls around and Brody and I head to the principals office.  When we got there he said to us, "I have to admit, I'm a little nervous.  Usually it's me calling kids into my office, but you have called ME to meet in my office."  We went inside the office and Brody calmly and politely told him that he was running for student council secretary and that he has followed all the rules and that he would like it if the kids all had the opportunity to walk throughout the cafeteria BEFORE they vote so that they could see EVERYONE'S poster.  He explained that his poster did not get put up due to the foam board and that he understood that, however each student voting needs the opportunity to see the posters.  The principal thanked Brody for bringing this to his attention and told him he was very impressed with how he handled things and that he would talk to the teacher in charge and get back to him.  And then we left.  I was so proud of Brody for the way he handled things.  And guess what?  The principal had each teacher walk the students through the cafeteria before the election so that the posters could be seen.  Way to go Brody!

Ledger at 7 Years Old

 After the Student Council speeches today, I pulled Ledger out of school and took him to his 7 year check up with Dr. James.  At 7 years, 2 months, Ledger is 46.8 inches tall (23%)

 He weighs 48 pounds (30%)

 His vision is 20/25

 And oddly enough he can hear perfectly!

Ledger was so funny at his appointment today.  He made sure to wear his favorite under ware (Under Armour) and was sooooo embarrassed to wait in his under ware for the doc.  He covered up with the cloth and wouldn't let Dr. James get under there to check everything down south.  He got his finger pricked today and had the bubble under his skin.  The best part about the appt was peeing in the cup!  Why do boys like this so much?  

Case Knows History!

This week has been a busy one with the student council elections.  Case decided (with a little encouragement from Brody) that he wanted to run for school Historian (the only office 4th graders can run for).

Jeremy and Case worked on this great poster.  In case you can't see, Case KNOWS his history! Jeremy superimposed Case in different shots with Thomas Edison, The first automobile, The Wright Brothers, the end of WWII, Neil Armstrong, and Steve Jobs, and of course Case winning Historian.  It looked really good!

 The day of the elections, Case was not at all nervous.  In fact, he was super excited because 2 of his friends from class were running for historian too.  He told me if he didn't win, he hoped his cute friend Quin would.  

 I can't believe Case was not nervous.  I was and I didn't have to give a speech in front of all my class mates.  :) I think one of the reasons I was so nervous is because we were up late last night practicing with Case, and for whatever reason, he could NOT get his talk figured out.  Silly boy. 

Here is what Case said in his speech:

My name is Case Felstead and I am running for the 2014 Franklin Historian.  

Today as I give my speech, I want you to count how many times I say my name, CASE.

In CASE you don't know this about me, I am smart, kind, athletic and funny.

In CASE you are wondering who will be good at keeping records of the things that happen here at Franklin, it's me, CASE Felstead.

Just in CASE you all want to know who can take good pictures and be at all the school functions, It's CASE Felstead.

In CASE you are not sure who will be at all the student council meetings, it's CASE Felstead.

In CASE you are wondering who will do the best job at Historian, It's CASE Felstead.

In CASE you are wondering who to vote for, it's me, CASE Felstead.

So how many times did you hear me say my name, CASE?  On the count of 3 yell it out.  1-2-3….

In CASE you didn't get it, I said my name 12 times.  That's 12 reasons why you should vote for me, CASE Felstead for Franklin Historian.  

So Case did not win Historian but his friend Quin did and that made him SUPER happy.  That and he got nominated to be his student council representative which allows him to attend the meetings and report to the younger grades. 

Pre-K

 Guess who started Pre-K today?  After a week and a half of waiting, this little lady started school today.  She was so excited and is so ready.  I really hate her birthday!  She misses the kindergarten cut off by 17 days. It's not that I care that she is going to be home one more year, but I hate that all of her friends are starting kindergarten and she doesn't get to.  

 Berkley's school schedule is a little crazy this year.  She get's to go 5 days a week but she doesn't go until the afternoon which is hard.

 Once inside, the kids were singing a "hello" song with their names.  is it just me or are there a whole lot of boys in this class? 

Berkley is going to have a great year with Miss Greta. 

Court Of Honor

 After lots of meetings and 3 hours of church, we attended a court of honor tonight to celebrate all of the scouts and their accomplishments.  Brody needed 1 more requirement tonight to get his second class and that was to participate in a flag ceremony.  Check that off the list.  

 As an 11 year old scout tonight, Brody earned his Tenderfoot, Second Class, Wildlife Management badge, Fingerprinting Badge, Traffic Safety Badge, and  Golf Merit Badge.  He almost has his Environmental Science Merit Badge too.

 Love that they boys have to give their mom's the award too.

Back To School 2014

 Today my boys started back at school.  I cannot believe I have a second, fourth and sixth grader! 

 The fact that I have a sixth grader scares me!  Brody has the same teacher he had in fourth grade, Ms. Karr.  She is LOUD, crazy and wild, but so much fun.  Brody is the only student who got Ms. Karr again this year.  Everyone who had her in fourth grade wanted her again this year and Brody is the only one who got her.  He is so excited!  He will have an adventurous and fun year! 

 Case had a difficult start this morning.  He is certain he is shrinking because his new jeans don't fit him the way he remembered they did when he tried them on.  Not only that, but his new Nike shoes didn't arrive in time for the first day and he was super sad about that.  Case has Ms. Peterson this year.  She is expecting her second child in October and will be on maternity leave from October until January.  He is super bummed because his teacher last year was pregnant ALL year and was pretty much DONE with teaching.  He is worried that his new teacher will be the same.  Luckily the permanent sub coming in is supposed to be awesome.  We will see.  Just wish this boy could get a fun nice teacher!

 Ledger is in Mrs. Schwartz class this year.  At Meet The Teacher yesterday, we realized that she HAS to be the sweetest teacher in the whole school.  She talks in a high smily voice and is happy happy happy!  FINALLY Ledger gets a sweet teacher.  He has waited since preschool for this.  He is so excited for school to start, he can hardly stand it!  I think Ledger is going to have an amazing year! 

 After many many tears until late in the night, these boys (Brody and Case) finally got some sleep.  They woke up moaning and groaning this morning and not at all excited for school to start.  Jeremy said when we keep having the best summer's EVER, he can see what it's so hard for them.  Maybe I need to give them hours and hours of chores all summer so they WANT to go back to school!

 Brody got out of the car this morning and disappeared.  Luckily he found his friend Trevor and they quickly caught up.  Last night I was prepping Brody that there would be LOTS of picture taking today and that he needed to just relax and not say anything about it.  He scolded me and told me that I could NOT take any pictures of him.  A couple hours later, he changed his mind and told me that I COULD take pictures of him.  Funny little 11 year old!

 Case has a really hard time transitioning back to school.  His best friend Chandler is being home schooled this year and Case is super sad!  I hope he will meet lots more friends this year and have a great year.  It will be a difficult few weeks but I have geared up for it and hope I/We can handle it!

 Ledger is so excited his friend Henry is in his class again this year.  

 After school, we headed over to Golden Spoon to have ice cream with the Giles.  We started this tradition last year and have decided it's waaaaay too fun to not do every year!

I can't believe Jordan started kindergarten this year but Berkley didn't get to.  Wish these two were a little closer in age.  Every one we know started kindergarten this year.  Hopefully Miss B. will make some new friends before she goes.  

Meet The Teacher

 This morning Jeremy and I took the kids to meet their new teachers.  We just found out last night who they were going to have and let's just say,  I think this year is going to be much better then last for at least 2 of these kids.  We started with Ledger this year.  His new teacher Mrs. Schwartz seems very sweet and nice.  She has a high pitched voice and smiles ALOT!  Ledger deserves a sweet teacher!

Ledger sits in the the second row which is nice since he is so little.  He knows a couple kids in his class which is always good.  This kid is so good at making friends so I am not one bit worried about him.  

Up next was Case.  Getting this kid to get a picture in front of his classroom was a joke!  Apparently he is too cool for pictures this year. 

Case has Mrs. Peterson this year.  She is so cute and seems super nice but she is pregnant and having a baby in October! Case's teacher last year was pregnant also and Case is really DONE with that!  Lucky for him, he has a sub coming in that is supposed to be awesome!  Hopefully that's the case and it will be a great year for this fourth grade boy.  Case is excited that his friend Quin is in his class this year but so sad that his friend Chandler is being home schooled.

Last but not least it was Brody's turn to meet his teacher.  He feels like he won the lottery this year with Ms. Karr as his teacher…AGAIN.  Brody was pretty ok with me taking pictures of him this year.  Thank you Brody!

I cannot believe that next year at this time I will have a boy in junior high school.  This boy has some big decisions to make about what he wants to do next year.  I hate all these school choices that we as parents have to make now.  When I was growing up, we just went to our home school.  That was it! Now there are so many options…Good options.  I don't know why I am even worrying about next year, this boy has got to make it through 6th grade with Ms. Karr!

My boys are growing up waaaaay too fast!  I hate that our summer is over and I hate that we have to go back to school already!  I hope that this school year is fun for these kids.  I hope their teachers see how smart and amazing these 3 are. Here we go!

Impact

This little lady started dance today.  She is taking at a new studio.  She had to try out last week in front of 6 judges.  It was so funny!  

Because she made the company team, she will take 4 classes a week for a total of 4 hours.  Not sure how that is going to work out with our schedule, but we will see.

The boys and I stuck around to watch her on the first day.  She had an acro and jazz class.  

The boys and I were cracking up watching her. She was having a ball!

I hope she likes this new dance studio.  She was ready for a change so we will see how it works out. For now, she is making some cute new friends and having a ball!
