Wild Wild West

 Last Tuesday night, our ward (and the Preston Ward) had our annual Cub Scout Blue and Gold Banquet. This is always a fun night for the boys since it happens only once a year.  Our theme this year was Wild Wild West. Since I am obsessed with my Cricut, I made this fun banner that read:  "WANTED!  Hard Workin Cub Scouts."  Had I thought this through better, I would have bought something to hang as the background before hanging the letters.  They were hard to see on this wall.

Because I am a firm believer that all good parties start with the invitation, I made these with my circuit and then had the boys assemble them at their den meeting.  They turned out super cute and the boys did a great job putting them together.

 I am only putting these pictures on my blog as a reminder of what we did.  Being that I have 3 boys, I'm sure I will be doing a wild wild west blue and gold banquet again sometime! Hanging on the back wall were the WANTED posters of some of the boys.  The rest of the posters were hanging up front.

 We are short leaders in Cub Scouts right now so my second counselor and I used one of the den meetings to have the boys paint western pictures.  They looked really cute hanging around the cultural hall.

 I had Jeremy to make these WANTED posters of all the boys.  They turned out super cute.  

 I hope Kaden's mom Julia is ok with me putting this poster on my blog.  I really like how he posed for the picture.  I want to remember this for next time!

 We used another den meeting to have the boys make these campfire centerpieces for the tables. I think each boy only got burned by my hot glue gun 5 times.

Here is the campfire Brody made at his den meeting.  I'm only including this picture because he will want to keep the campfire FOREVER and this way I can say I have a picture of it on my blog!

 Jeremy brought this saddle and stand for the boys to sit on.  As you can see, my kids thought this was pretty cool.

 When the boys arrived, they learned to make knots from the new cub master's husband.

 For dinner we grilled hot dogs in the parking lot.  We had chips, beans, and each boy brought a pan of cornbread for a cornbread contest.  Brody was crowned, "The Cornbread King" which made his night. Thanks Cyndi for the recipe!

 Brody is now a Webelo and because he attended the Webeloree, he was able to earn his Forrester and Geologist Activity pins.  

After the awards ceremony, the boys learned to rope from Cade Chandler which was super fun!

WHOOPEE!

Today I had the opportunity to help with Ledger's class party.  The teacher had all the games planned out so all I had to do was show up and help.  After the kids got to play the games, the teacher gave them about 10 minutes to open their Valentine's.  They were thrilled.  The teacher was thrilled.  Everything was going smoothly until.....the kids discovered that a cute spiky haired boy gave Whoopee Cushions as his Valentines.  It all went down hill from there.  Imagine what it sounds like when 23 kindergartners "Whoopee" in a classroom.  I could see the teacher starting to panic.  I started to panic. Then I laughed!  As a former first grade teacher, I would have KILLED the dumb mom who sent in the Whoopee Cushions instead of candy.  I told the teacher (who is VERY STRICT by the way) that I was terribly sorry and that she could cuss me out after I left.  Then I laughed again and said, "Can you tell I'm raising boys?" She raised 4 girls so I'm sure she didn't understand.  My guess it that girls would not give Whoopee Cushions as Valentines...although mine did (to the boys).

One of the girls in Ledger's kindergarten class said, "What's a Whoopee Cushion?"  That's when my little darling stepped up to show her and the others just how cool they are.



PS. Saturday while I was at basketball I was talking to a friend whose kids do not go to the same school as mine.  Somewhere in the conversation she mentioned a name that rang a bell.  It happened to be a mom whose daughter is in Case's class.  She also happened to be the mom who was in charge of the Valentine's Day party.  This friend of mine was telling me about a conversation she had with her friend (who I now know) and how some crazy mom thought it would be fun to attach whoopee cushions to the valentines instead of candy.  She then went on to comment how the noise is making her crazy because her daughter won't stop playing with it.  At about that time my friend (cousin) Heather turns around and says something along the lines of, "I liked Brody's Valentines." She then says, "You did the whoopee cushions right?" The friend who I was talking to at the game then states, "THAT WAS YOU?" We all started cracking up cause it was such a coincidence that we just happened to be talking about this mom and her comments about the party. In case your wondering, the Whoopee cushion idea was copied from here.

Happy Valentine's Day

 This year for Valentine's Day we had our traditional lovers dinner at home.  Jeremy grilled steaks and I made baked potatoes, salad, broccoli and garlic bread.  The kids were thrilled when I told them that I had a CRUSH on them so they could drink and orange crush with dinner.  

 "Case, I mustache you a question."  

"Do you know how much I love you?"

 You can see that the mustache and lip straws were a hit.

 The kids got an Amazon gift card and Kit Kats for Valentine's day.  They were thrilled!  

 Oh....they each got a new book too.  Ledger loves this book, "The Napping House."

 Berkley didn't get an Amazon gift card so she got a pack of gum instead. Oh and she got a little blue box with a bear necklace from Jeremy since he calls her Honeybear.

R2D2

For his 10th birthday, Brody got this R2D2 Lego from my mom.  He could hardly wait to get the thing put together.  He woke up super early each morning to work on it before school.  He worked on it for the 5 minutes he is home after school.  It took about a week and 2 hiccups before he finished.  This thing is amazing.  I can see why he wanted to get it put together.  

ASU Basketball

 After our basketball games Saturday, Jeremy and I took the boys to the ASU/Stanford basketball game with the MYB basketball league.  We loved that the Giles and Morin families were there with us.  

 As part of the evening, we were able to tour the ASU Hall Of Fame.  It was fun to see all the different statistics about ASU.  Did you know that ASU is super good in archery?  They have tons and tons of 1st place trophies in archery.  Jeremy and I are thinking maybe we should sign Brody up for archery;).  My boys loved the area that had the football helmets on the wall to represent every team in the NFL and which ASU players have played there.  It was super cool. 

 The highlight of the night was when the boys got to run through Tillman Tunnel just like the football players do at each home game.  I have to admit....I kinda liked it too!

 Of course there was the actual basketball game that we got to watch.  Although ASU lost in the last seconds, we had fun cheering them on.

When the boys looked up and saw Jackson on the jumbo tron....they spent the rest of their night trying to get on too.

Playing Against Giants

 Today was another fun filled day of basketball games.  The day started off at 8:00 with Ledger's game at Highland, and Brody's game at Stapley.  I attended Ledger's game while Jeremy went to Brody's.  I have to say....Ledger is actually starting to get how this game works.  He is understanding what he needs to do when his team has the ball and what he needs to do when his team doesn't have the ball. (I think we call this offense and defense:)) He is actually yelling, "PASS!" to his team mates when he sees that he is clearly open and they aren't. And he is all over his man when he is on defense.  I think he's been watching Case because he has some fancy footwork like his big brother.  

 So grateful that there is no stealing at this stage of the game.  It takes every ounce of concentration Ledger has just to dribble the ball.  These games are hilarious!

Jeremy headed over to Brody's game this morning while I was with Ledger.  Brody is doing so much better this year with basketball.  Although he is still pretty small  compared to most of his opponents, he hustles and is having fun.  Love this picture of Brody (number 11) trying to shoot the ball against these powerhouses!

 These boys are good at this stage of the game.  I am proud of Brody for wanting to play this year.  He has learned tons and really has fun.

 Can you just see the amount of energy it takes this kid to get the ball up? Hopefully he will catch up to these tall dudes one day!

 To end our day of basketball, we headed to Field to watch Case.  This kid is fun to watch.  He loves the game and it is obvious.

 Case is a good shooter but he loves to take half court shots.  We are working on getting him to get closer to the hoop before he takes his shot.

 Case is starting to get the idea of getting the rebound.  He may be short, but he is quick!

Even sitting on the bench with your team mates can be fun!  This is a cute group of boys.  Love this team and the coach!

Brody's Cabin Party Day 2

 Sunday morning the boys were up bright and early again ready to go shooting.  Jeremy and Jim took the boys to Porter Mountain for a morning of pistol and rifle shooting.

 Ledger shot 2 cans today. 

 Case was having trouble using his right eye to look through the scope.

 Brody is actually a really good shooter.  He has good aim and can hit the target.

The rest of Sunday was spent playing in the snow and watching the Super Bowl.  These boys are going to be exhausted when I take them home tomorrow.
