Sledding At The Cabin

Today I attempted to take the three boys snow skiing at Sunrise. After waiting in lines for 2 hours and watching a Dad throw a helmet at his son while screaming and cursing him out, we headed back to the cabin. We were all so sad that we didn't get to ski, but it was so crowded up there, it was probably best. Since we didn't get to ski, the boys decided that sledding would make up for it all. Sledding at the cabin is one of our favorite things to do. The snow is melting fast here which makes for great sledding snow. The kids headed over to the golf course for some laughter and fun today.
Getting up the hill is the hardest part.

Ledger is the perfect height and weight for the new sleds.
CRASH!!
It doesn't matter how big or small the hill is, Brody is having fun.

Ledger!
Love these crashing pictures.

Fun At The Cabin Week 3

Another week at the cabin has come to an end. I wish we could just go on with life up here. There isn't a worry in the world these days. Just perfect, beautiful weather and lots of FUN! This week the boys participated in the golf and tennis clinics. They loved both and are now asking for tennis lessons when we get home. I bet they'll change their minds when they realize how hot it is in Mesa. Maybe when it cools down we can talk about it, but right now...NO! We spent most of the day at the rec hall, playing, swinging, zip lining. Brody has done every craft available up there while Case has played every sport the rec hall staff has organized. Ledger likes to play on the swings, slides and monkey bars while Berkley is sleeping comfortably back at the cabin with Sugar.
On Tuesday night, we headed up to the Club for a little Family BINGO. Although not one of us won, we had a good time trying. Ledger fell sound asleep between two chairs (shortly after this picture was taken), Miss B. snuggled closely on my lap, Case asked if we could leave (toward the end) and Brody downed Root Beer after Root Beer as he tried to win a game. I would say that was a good night!
One of the Cub Scout electives is to make a bean bag to give to a friend. Soooooo....Sugar helped both Brody and Case sew bean bags for themselves and then Brody made one for Miss B. and Ledger. They did a great job and looooved sewing on Sugar's fancy machine.
Thanks Sugar for helping Brody learn to sew. Now he wants to make bean bags for all his friends.
On Wednesday it poured rain all afternoon. We were at the rec hall playing and it was really coming down. The thunder was so loud and the lightening was flashing all over the dark sky. It was awesome! Calie Parker had asked if I wanted to take the kids to a movie with her so we headed over the the White Mountain Cinemas to see Zoo Keeper. The movie was not super great. I didn't like a lot of the language and innuendos. Some of the scenes were not appropriate for my boys. It could have been so much better considering all the animals that were in it. The boys did love hanging with their cousin Madden who is up here for the golf clinic also.
Case thinks tennis is the best sport ever now. He is asking for lessons when we get home. He is really pretty good at it!
Ledger is happy doing the most simple things. His friend Trevin Brown is here doing the golf clinic and the two of them are just happy hanging out.
These boys are getting so good at golf. They love going to the clinic each day and then eating on the porch for lunch.
One thing that has been fun is that we have been spending more time reading chapter books each night. I have to admit that when I am home, come bed time...I AM DONE!! After running kids all day, eating dinner on the run, and doing homework in the car, I am ready for it to be over. Often times we don't get to just sit and read together. Each night I have been reading from a chapter book to the boys before they go to sleep. We have read, "Tales Of A Fourth Grade Nothing" and "How To Eat Fried Worms." Tales Of A Fourth Grade Nothing was good, but How to Eat Fried Worms, not so much. I am really actually surprised it is on the third grade list. It has bad words and words that I have never seen or heard of (my Mom and I were looking up definitions each night on her IPad Dictionary), The way it is written is difficult to read and understand. If you don't believe me, have you ever seen or heard these words? Cistern, troglodycrosis, apoplectically, deracinate. I especially wasn't too found of the part that talked about enormous pigeon-breasted women or when two of the boys got in a fight and called each other "bastard." Have any of you read, "How To Eat Fried Worms?" What was your opinion?
Brody loves doing salt dough creations at the rec hall.
One of Case's favorite activities is dodge ball. There are so many kids up at the rec hall that it makes for a fun game.
The rec hall has a whole critter area that houses frogs, turtles, mice, rats, guinea pigs, snakes, fish and rabbit. Ledger loved playing with the animals and watching them play.
Miss B. would swing all day if I let her. She is so happy here!
Watch out! It's a shark!
What did you do this week?

Fun At The Cabin Week 2

We just finished another fun week here at the cabin. Last week was filled with golf, golf, and more golf so this week we are totally hanging out and having FUN! We spend every afternoon at the rec hall doing the zip line, painting, playing dodge ball, shooting off bottle rockets, and swinging. The weather here is so beautiful that all we want to do is play outside. Today we went on a bike ride and checked the crawdad trap we set on Sunday. Everyone has left so I am here with my kiddos and mom. I love spending quality time with them doing all things FUN! Next week will be filled with another golf clinic and tournament so we are looking forward to that. Along with our play time, we are enjoying doing things for Cub Scouts. Brody is checking off all kinds of requirements along with working on any belt loop that involves being outside. What a great way to spend the summer!
Brody and Case can't get enough of the zip line. Ledger and Miss B. love it too.
Ledger wants to swing all day. He likes going super HIGH!
Have you ever tried doing Hot Rocks? I found the idea online and my kids had a ball making these. All you do is put your rock in the oven for 15 minutes and then let them roll crayons around the rock. They turn out so pretty when all the colors are mixed together.
Jeremy took the boys to Home Depot for some PVC Pipe to make a fort. They are loving playing the WII in the fort.
On Tuesday, we headed over to the Larsen Memorial Library to check out some books to read since we will be here a while. The library isn't too bad for such a small town, but trying to get a library card is a whole other story. You would have thought I was trying to let my boys rent a car or something. The lady made us fill out all this paperwork and then since we didn't have a piece of mail to prove we have a mailbox here, she only let us check out 2 books per card. Ledger and Miss B. weren't even allowed to get cards so our book checkout was very limited. She told us to come back tomorrow and she would let us have our library cards, but only if we brought her a piece of mail. Ok then! So we showed up the next day with a piece of mail and the CRAZY lady would still not let us check out books. She said since it was my mom's name on the mail, my kids and I were not allowed to check out books. I kid you not when I tell you that I got into a huge fight with her, right there in the quiet library, in front of my kids. She tried to tell me you have to be able to write your name before you can get a card. You have to have a mailbox before you can get a card. She kindly offered to mail my card to my home address, but why the heck would I want her to do that? I want to check out books in Pinetop, not Mesa. We already have Mesa library cards. So basically homeless adults, and kids under the age of 4 (is that when most kids can write their name?) are not allowed to check out books. Apparently PUBLIC library is not so PUBLIC!! They should call it, "The Pinetop Residents Who Have A Mailbox ONLY Library!! RIDICULOUS!! Just so you know, Brody and Case were both crying when we left because they had spent an hour picking out the perfect books to read while on vacation. Oh and by the way, those library cards my boys are holding, are only for the sake of documenting our time in the mountains. That crazy library lady snatched them right out of my boys hands when I was done taking the picture.
Before the fiasco with the library cards, Ledger found all the Mickey Mouse books. I loved reading them to him while the other 3 destroyed the library.
While Jeremy was here, he helped the boys set a crawdad trap in the nearby lake. They poked holes in a can of corn and then placed the can in the trap and threw it out. When the kids and I went back to check on the trap (2 days later), there was 1 crawdad in the trap. Total bummer! We let the poor thing go since there was nooooo waaaaayy I was cooking crawdad for dinner!
Bye Bye little crawdad! You sure are gross!
We found this little garden snake on the golf course. What a fun week!

Hiking Sunrise

Today we took the kiddos to Sunrise to go on a hike. We rode up the chairlift and then walked down to the bottom. When we got to the bottom, we jumped back on the chairlift and then rode up and down. It was so fun and the kids did pretty good considering it took us an hour to walk down. The weather was beautiful, cloudy and overcast. After our hike, we drove to Greer and ate lunch at Rendezvous Diner. It was good but you should see the town of Greer. It is burnt to nothing due to the Willow Fire. The fire literally came up the the highway. It is a sad sight! What a fun way to spend a Saturday at the cabin. What did you do today?
Even Miss B. got to ride the chair lift. How do you like my hubby's new haircut? He showed up yesterday with this new buzz cut. I swear I can't leave the guy alone for 2 seconds!!
Ledger and I were snugly close on the chair lift.
One of the reasons we went on this hike today was so Brody could earn his "Hiking" belt loop for Cub Scouts. One thing I do love about Scouts is that it gives us lots of ideas of fun things we should be doing. On any other Saturday, we would have just hung out at the cabin. Going on a hike was a good opportunity to get out in the cool mountain air.
Poor Case. He kept slipping on the rocks and falling down. His little knees are so scraped up. By the end he was in tears and Jeremy was giving him a piggy back ride.
Ledger spent a good part of the hike on Jeremy's shoulders. He hung in there though and made it down with us all.
Miss B. rode the chair lift about 4 times with Jim while we were hiking down.
She was in heaven!
The boys were so excited when they saw this trail called "Sugar."
I love that it's a "green run" slow, easy and plain FUN, just like Sugar!

Fishing at Scott's Reservoir

My three fishermen!
Ledger had fun learning how to fish.
Brody really wanted to catch some fish today!
Case was the only lucky one. He caught a crawdad.
So happy Papa was there to help with the fishing

Over the weekend, Jeremy and his dad took the 3 boys fishing at Scotts Reservoir. Jeremy assured the boys they would catch a fish since the Forrest Service has been stocking it with fish from lakes affected by the Wallow Fire. They loaded up their fishing gear and some snacks and they were off. About 2 hours later they come walking through the back gates with tears in their eyes. No Fish! Nothing. Pure disappointment! There is nothing worse then going fishing and not catching a thing. Hopefully Jeremy will take them again when he comes up next weekend. These boys wanna catch some fish so bad.

A Mean Game Of Softball

Last night we played a mean game of softball of the golf course before dinner. Since we are a tad bit competitive in our family, the game got a little crazy and so much fun! I will miss all these hoodlums when they leave tomorrow.
Case can really hit the ball!
Lisa, Chandler and Brody argue over the play.
